| Living about an hour and half drive from Sestriere, home of the 2006 Winter Olympics, we felt we had to finally give skiing a try. In February I took a couple of days off work and we booked our first ever skiing lessons...
| Well, we were still standing up at this point.
| And even going downhill (or at least down an incline)
| The tallest person on the beginner slopes... by a long way!
| It snowed a little, although people were mainly complaining about lack of snow on the slopes, and even us absolute novices found it got a bit too icy in the afternoon.
| Bombardini - the local speciality. Zabaglione liquer and brandy, heated with the cappucino frother, with whipped cream on top... the really good side to skiing!
| After 3 days, not standing up anymore!
| The alps at sunset - spectacular.
| Sestriere seen from a ski-lift
| After 4 days, we conclude that skiing is fun and that having just finished skiing is even more fun - wine for lunch in the sun, surrounded by snow - fabulous!
| Imagining that I actually know how to ski now (but not actually moving)
| The view from our hotel window.
