| For the 1st November bank holiday weekend, we took the train over to Venice for a long weekend. We were blessed with fantastic weather, particularly given that it had been acqua alta (aka flooded) 1 day before we arrived, rainy and misty. | |
| There here follow lots of classic photos of Venice... it really is very photogenic. | |
| Our visit fell within the Biennale festival, and we spent several hours in the contemporary art exhibition in the purpose built park. Here are the French toilets! | |
| And the American lights. (There were plenty of other things which didn't merit a photo.) | |
| The Russian pavilion was showing a video of the Venice skyline at sunset, which looked spectacular. When we read on the caption that it was a live feed from the roof we realised we were missing a spectacular sunset and ran outside to savour the moment. We concluded that the modern art was a bit of a waste of time when you had the Venice skyline to look at! | |
| We didn't pay for the expensive Gondola ride, just the 30 second trip to cross the canal! | |
| The view from the monastery campanile on Torcello. | |
| The mountains were visible in the distance, the sky reflected in the bay. | |
| The colourful houses of Burano | |
| Brilliant Scallops... | |
| ...which Rachel enjoyed a great deal! | |
| Also part of the Biennale, this was a Disco in a wardrobe... but it was full when we arrived so we couldn't get in! | |
| Al tried the local speciality - spaghetti with squid ink. Quite nice, but very messy! | |
| We had booked in advance for a concert at La Fenice to finish off a romantic trip. | |
