| Joy, Chris, Viv and Pearl visited us in Turin for the long Easter weekend. | |
| First stop was the historic "Al Bicerin" café. | |
| It is a tiny place, full of atmosphere and is famous for its eponymous drink - coffee, chocolate and cream! | |
| Mmmmm. | |
| We celebrated Easter Day with a traditional English home cooked roast lamb... | |
| ...and Italian ice creams for afternoon tea! | |
| On Easter Monday we took the funicular train which runs up the hill by Turin... | |
| ...to the Basilica of Superga. | |
| Which commands spectacular views over the whole city, and the mountains behind. | |
| The Italian tradition is to have a picnic on Easter Monday, and we happily conformed, spreading ourselves out in the sunshine with a stunning view. | |
| Back down to the city... | |
| ...and cooling off in a fountain. | |
| On Tuesday we took a trip out to the Castle of Manta. A very well managed attraction with impressive frescoes and set in beautiful countryside. | |
| For lunch we moved onto the nearby hill town of Saluzzo. Another beautiful setting, with winding, mediaeval streets. | |
| We persuaded a restaurant that it was good enough weather for us to eat outside and we promptly took over half the piazza with an extended lunch in the sunshine. Bliss! | |
| A busy day finished with a visit to the Abbey of Staffarda... | |
| ...and another sit down in another café! |
