15th December 2007:
The Langhe in the Snow

We had booked a little way in advance a meal at one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the Langhe wine growing region because it was due for a change of management and our good friend Alessandro assured us it was worth experiencing. What made it truly special however was, as we drove away from Turin, the amount of snow on the ground got greater and greater until we reached our destination and the small hill town of La Morra was covered in a thick, very fresh snowfall. Fallen just a few hours before, and without any wind, the place felt like Narnia, with trees draped in thick snow.
The Belvedere restaurant at the heart of the town, was the venue for an incredible 8 or 9 course feast of exceedingly high standard. The ravioli containing a runny, but cooked egg yolk, covered with parmesan and grated truffle was not only astonishing but tasted like nothing on earth.
The bel-vedere from our table in the window.
With Alessandro after the feast.
A snow covered rose is not something you see everyday.
