12th-14th June 2009:
Nice

On a free weekend we drove 2.5 hours down to the French riviera to visit Nice.
We stayed just outside the old centre and spent a lot of time wandering around, soaking up the atmosphere.
And eating! Oysters and mussels... mmmm.
Breakfast on the beach... mmmmmmmmm.
The market was spectacular - everything displayed immaculately. From spices...
...to veg.
We climbed up on the hill to get a view down on the city.
And enjoyed a very French picnic. Pate! (Something we are starved of a few kilometers away in Italy!)
We visited the modern art gallery...
...and enjoyed a glass of wine on the beach.
Still warm enough to have a dip at 7pm!
On the Sunday we left Nice and visited the nearby hill town of Eze, with amazing views down the coast.
The botanical garden there, on top of the hill, is a highlight.
Heading back along the coast we missed a turn and suddenly found ourselves in Monaco. Al struggled to contain his excitement as he tore along the start finish straight at 20km/h, only 2 weeks after Jenson Button had done the same (a bit faster)...
...round Ste Devote in 3rd gear...
...and through the famous tunnel... the wrong way!
