| Our first full day of married life! We had a family lunch at our hotel in Huntingdon before driving down to Heathrow. We stopped on route at the mill at Houghton in Cambridgeshire... where Alastair proposed. (Ah, romantic!)
| Several hours later we boarded a small plane in Dar Es Salaam ariport to take us across to Zanzibar. Rachel sat in the co-pilot's seat and tried not to touch anything that looked important.
| Our first days were spent relaxing by the beach at Breezes beach resort.
| But we made time to visit a local village.
| The sea was warm and blissful - an ideal place to drink milkshakes.
| After 4 days of solid relaxing we transferred to Pemba, a smaller island in the archipelago, with only 2 hotels. Ours, the Fundu Lagoon, could only be reached by speedboat and had a mere 14 rooms...
| ...so finding a space on the beach wasn't usually a problem.
| We're not experts (acutally complete novices) but the snorkelling here is supposed to be some of the best in the world. You could walk along the golden beach and just stick your head under the water at any point to see an array of coral and tropical fish.
| We took a "dolphin safari"...
| ...and a private picnic on the beach.
| Thomas, one of the waiters from the hotel, took us to look around the local village.
| Where we found many friends.
| Who were all fascinated to see their own photos on the digital camera.
| Al learnt some automotive engineering from the local boys.
| Dinner on the hotel pier, by oil lamp.
| We took a beginner scuba course and swam in amongst the tropical fish; although the snorkelling was so incredible it was almost unnecessary.
| The rooms in the hotel were luxury tents in the jungle, with a view straight onto the beach.
| The hotel bar was on the jetty.
| Our final days were spent in the capital of Zanzibar, Stone Town. Where it rained torrentially, non-stop for around 36 hours...
| ...so we played scrabble.
| It finally stopped and we had chance to explore the fish market.
| Time to head home, and flying over Kilimanjaro.
