2nd July 2005:
Live 8, Hyde Park, London

I later calculated there was a 1 in 11 chance of getting tickets via the text message ballot. I only entered once, but thought it was worth having a go, not really expecting to get tickets. But we did! We lived about 15 minutes walk from Hyde Park, and arrived late morning to start queuing. A great atmosphere, and our Make Poverty History t-shirts came into their own.
We were about a third of the way back and could see what was going on, but it was like being at the back of a large stadium - the people were pretty small. The downside was the waiting in between acts (the whole thing overran by hours), but it was a beautiful day and the list of people we saw perform live is simply astonishing; some huge names who I can only just remember in amongst the day... U2, Paul MacCartney, REM, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Elton John, Sting, Annie Lennox, Coldplay, Travis, Scissor Sisters, UB40, Pink Floyd, The Who, Dido... (Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg weren't really worth a mention)etc. etc.
